asssscat monologues.
Dear internet,   In the coming months, I’ll be the person who books the monologist for ASSSSCAT.  I am extremely excited to assume this role, and plan to work very hard to honor the tradition upheld by Justin Purnell for so many years.   A big part of doing this job well will involve a high level of approachability and hustle.  In effort to diversify the caliber of monologist ASSSSCAT can...

the city lights.
I think it’s a happy thought to drive through the city at night and see all the sparkling lights and a million tiny windows of people’s homes and to think that not one of them got there on their own.  That none of those lights would be there if the person in that apartment hadn’t known, somewhere in their life, someone very loving.

What is SOPA? →
nicolemarietherese: Cathryn just gchatted me a question about SOPA and I realized I can only provide kind of vague half-answers. I did that thing where I thought I knew what I’m talking about but then could only talk in nonsense fragments. So I did a google search (lucky!) and, unfortunately, most of what came up isn’t as thorough or informative as you might want. But then I found today’s post...

gemberling, man.
Tonight at Roo Roo, Atamanuik initiated a scene as a character driving a car.  Gemberling was the passenger, but apparently he didn’t get what Anthony was trying to establish, so he just sat there in silence forever while Anthony’s character went on and on.  Finally, Anthony became so frustrated that he threw Gemberling from the moving car. Gemberling fell out and rolled away...

Goals of the person I’d like to be in 2012.  I like writing them so they feel real and I feel accountable.   1) Be here now 2) Be conscious where my mind rests  3) Commit to routines of gratitude and service  4) See an opera.  See a ballet.   5) Study French 6) Outgrow the assumption that all things intimate end unpleasantly  7) Date more, and try not to hate it   8) Get good at...

dcpierson: The other night we sat on the couch  of the house where she’s cat-sitting  and drank wine and watched The Wire  while she mended a hole in the pocket  of some pants I got at Old Navy. It was like a heaven where you still needed pants.

Improv Observer: Monday, Nov. 7 - Kaleidoscope →
improvobservations: For those of you unfamiliar (so, zero people) Kaleidoscope is an improv show founded by the one and only Alan Starzinski. Shaun Diston ran it for some time and then Cathryn Mudon took over. It’s a really fun but more importantly, SUPPORTIVE show which focuses on bringing improvisers of all levels…

improv thought.
I was talking improv late last night with a buddy and had the following thought, which I quite liked.  It may or may not be horseshit, but this is the abridged version of much longer (boring er) musical analogy. I think improvisers, their aptitudes, can be broadly categorized as follows:  BACH The most technically sophisticated players.  Clean mathematical moves played with absolute precision....

occupy.
I thought of my grandpa today when I saw this photo and had a little cry.    It made me sick that I don’t do enough (anything) to make things that matter better.   I feel gross sometimes, how much energy I invest in all my stupid little goals which have a positive impact on precisely no one.   There’s a generation of people who never thought of themselves because they never had the...

“Two thousand years and what have we learned?” I had a philosophy professor in college, a former Jesuit priest turned atheist/anarchist/all around badass, whom I respected immensely.  I remember him asking the above question frequently regarding various unthinkable modern infringements on human rights: capital punishment, anti-gay legislation, etc.  A potentially innocent man was...
